Why Sponsor the Mountain Light Music Festival?
Music is a powerful force in all our lives. Music creates community, helps us celebrate, mourn, allows us to pay tribute, and helps define the human condition. Above all, music helps us transcend the struggles of our current conditions and gives us a true hope for the future, while acknowledging our significant past.
We invite you to become an important part of Mountain Light Music Festival that creates a strong community tradition of culture in Pagosa Springs. Your support will help students spend a week this summer studying and performing at the Mountain Light Music Festival.
A week at the festival for students involves chamber rehearsals with faculty, lessons, day hikes, home cooked meals at the lodge, and the highly sought after fireside chats. Students work alongside faculty developing a practice strategies, discussing professional development, and discussing career and artistic goals. Faculty at MLMF mentor students and serve as servant leaders. Faculty prepare all meals, and serve the students through strong mentoring roles and hosting clinics focused on audition techniques, performance success, musical study, and career planning. Students are selected via competitive selection and every attempt is made to provide a diverse musical and highly structured professional training experience. We chose Pagosa Springs Colorado as our home because this community loves music!
How is the MLMF different from other festivals?
We focus on our outdoor setting, community building in Pagosa, and using wilderness and this incredible alpine surrounding as the perfect classroom for integrating music and nature. In addition to specialized musical training, we provide fly-casting lessons, wilderness skills, orienteering, ecology, conservation, day hikes, star gazing, and a day at the Springs. Our activities and practice help inspire creativity, provoke mindfulness, and introduce spiritual precepts to our craft. This is exactly what the aspiring young artist needs today! Help us grow this festival.
Future Vision
We plan on growing to a multi week summer music festival with full orchestra, guest soloists, jazz groups, choirs, string quartets, brass choir, and showcasing prestigious college faculty from around the country.
The MLMF will be partnering with local musicians, artists, and area teachers throughout the year and summer to help give back to the community and showcase Pagosa talent.
For 1 week each summer, artists are now flocking to Pagosa Springs to team up with some of the world’s most exciting musical mentors and exceptional young artists. MLMF with your help is fostering a new generation of musicians to perform well, collaborate, and carry with them the special reverence that cultivates in these mountains.
MLMF is donor-driven and every dollar that comes through our cabin makes a difference in the lives of the gifted students who spend the summer with us. Only 12 young artists from around the globe are chosen annually and more than 80% of these young musicians receive full or partial scholarships to study with our renowned faculty. |

I sincerely believe that with your help, we can build a world class venue in Pagosa Springs and host a uniquely intimate and inspiring summer-long music festival. Pagosa will be the summer home of world class faculty and students who will live here and perform in our homes, at the Mountain Light Lodge, Keyah Grande, the Springs, and ultimately on a newly built summer stage! Imagine sponsoring a string quartet or a jazz trio, or underwriting a symphony orchestra and top tier soloist, and being a part of this exciting startup here in Pagosa!
We believe in mentoring students and building community at Mountain Light Music Festival. I have been fortunate to teach many talented young musicians who have gone on to great success. MLMF is unique because our mission is one of spiritual value. Students discover how to place their trust in what is eternal, rather than a position or a title. We play music because we are inspired - not because we want attention. Help me share these truths about performance, art, community, and the gift of music with these wonderful students.
