Musician level - Joey Tkach
Joey Tkach, trumpet, is a junior music performance major at Baylor University under the tutelage of Wiff Rudd, Mark Schubert, and Alex Parker. Prior to Baylor, Joey attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he served as principal trumpet of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, was named the 2nd place winner in the Interlochen Concerto Competition, and was awarded the prestigious Interlochen Maddy Summer Artist Award. During his time at Baylor, he has won 1st place in both the small and large trumpet ensemble divisions of the National Trumpet Competition, as well as 2nd place in the Undergraduate Solo Division. He was also named a winner of Baylor University’s Semper Pro Musica Competition in both the Solo and Ensemble Divisions, granting him the opportunity to perform in the winners’ recital at Carnegie Hall. Joey has been a semi-finalist in the Houston Symphony’s Ima Hogg Concerto Competition, was one of three finalists in the International Trumpet Guild’s Orchestral Excerpts Competition, and has been named the trumpet winner of the Yamaha Young Artist Competition in 2018. In addition to his trumpet playing, Joey also studies composition under Scott McAllister at Baylor University. His most recent works include, “Skylights” for brass quintet, “Fuchsia Sands” for jazz septet, as well as many other arrangements. Joey currently teaches privately in Waco ISD, and enjoys watching his students grow.
